Why This Petition Matters
The Issue
- No more freedom of choice
- High costs & extra administration
- Unfair competition
- Threat to small and starting growers
- Limitation of entrepreneurial freedom within the cooperative
- Sanctions and fines for non-certified but sustainable growers
⚠️ Royal FloraHolland is making FSI certification mandatory for all growers. For the vast majority of growers, this requirement will take effect on January 1, 2026. For members with the Clock Focus membership package, the effective date is July 1, 2027. Our own cooperative is taking away the voluntary nature and freedom of choice. Make your voice heard!
The Situation
There is much resistance and unrest about this among a very large group of our members and suppliers. There is a Facebook group 'against certification' with 400 members. We hear the concerns about certification at colleagues' kitchen tables. Growers who lose sleep over it. Who no longer see the joy in growing due to the costs and administrative burden around it.
Our Concerns
In magazines and newsletters from RFH, critical voices are hardly heard. RFH only brings 'positive' stories to the outside. There is no place for critical voices. FSI must and will succeed, it seems. At what cost? We are seriously concerned about the attitude and course that RFH management thinks it should take. A very large group of members is being steamrolled.
Our Goal
We no longer want to let this happen and therefore we are going to join forces to stop RFH management. Stop mandatory certification. We think we should make our voice heard while we still can.
What We Think About Mandatory Certification
Making the ornamental plant sector more sustainable is important, but this can only succeed if it is feasible, affordable, transparent and widely supported. The consumer is misled with this 'sustainable' label. Only a solid certification system where the environmental impact of the product is also clearly shown will contribute to transparency and real sustainability.
